The Earth is our planet. The Equator divides the Earth into the Northen Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.
Oceans are large areas of water. There are five oceans:
1. The Pacific Ocean.
2. The Atlantic Ocean.
3. The Indian Ocean.
4. The Antarctic Ocean.
5. The Artict Ocean.
Continents are large areas of land. There are 6 continents:
1. Europe.
2. Asia.
3. Africa.
4. America.
5. Australia/Oceania.
6. Antarctica.
Exercise 5: continentes and oceans.
The Earth can be represented in different ways:
- A globe is a model of the Earth. It´s round.
- A map is a picture of the Earth´s surface. It´s flat and it has a legend wich gives us information about the map.
There are different types of maps:
- Physical maps: they incluyde mountains, rivers, seas and oceans.
- An atlas is a book of maps.
- Plans include a lot of information. They have symbols and a key to represent different places.
Countries have different shapes and sizes.
Orientation is when we know where we are in the Earth. The cardinal points help us to follow directions.
The cardinal points are: North (N), South (S), East (E)and West (W).
We can find our position by:
- Looking at the Sun: the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
